On October 1, 2024, I participated in the 10th meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Berlin Process, organized by Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Berlin. This meeting gathered key figures to discuss the future direction of the Western Balkans and the vital importance of regional cooperation.
Highlighting Progress in Our Region
In recent years, our region has seen positive developments that have strengthened connections between countries. Improvements in infrastructure and economic partnerships have opened doors for trade and collaboration. These efforts are essential for creating a supportive atmosphere that encourages growth and unity among nations. Additionally, programs aimed at engaging youth and fostering reconciliation demonstrate our commitment to building a peaceful future.
Confronting Ongoing Challenges
While we have made commendable progress, we must also face ongoing challenges. It is important to address existing conflicts and work on building better relationships with our neighbors. Our common goal is for the countries of the Western Balkans to eventually join the EU. Achieving this requires us to take meaningful steps that directly benefit our communities.
During the meeting, I shared my experiences from the recent Gender Equality Forum. This forum stressed the need to include gender perspectives in our economic plans. Supporting women in leadership roles and entrepreneurship not only promotes fairness but also boosts economic development. Recognizing the contributions of women is key to the overall progress of our region.
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
In my speech at the meeting, I emphasized the daily challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in Albania, particularly those from less urban areas. Coming from a background where I experienced limited support and resources, I understand how crucial it is to bridge the gap for women outside capital cities. The constant balancing act between personal and professional life can be overwhelming without proper support. My hope is to create a network that fosters information-sharing and support, allowing women across the region to thrive both personally and professionally.
Strengthening Cooperation for a Better Future
The meeting of Foreign Ministers was a reminder of our shared responsibility to work together towards a brighter future. As we move forward, it is crucial for all involved parties to engage in open communication. The insights gathered from our discussions will help guide our efforts to create a more integrated and successful Western Balkans.
